Build-up to 22 Bahman – San Jose, CA: “21 doesn’t bankrupt, 22 does”

As the people of Iran gear up for their own demonstrations on 22 Bahman, it was (and still is) imperative that footage of these rallies of many of these rallies was to get footage into Iran so as to re-affirm to them the world’s ongoing awareness of and support for their efforts to attain basic human & civil rights.

Only hours after footage of the San Jose event began to surface, we received an excited e-mail from inside Iran with the very same video attached. Support has gone viral, friends. Make sure to keep sharing the pictures and video, whether it be on Twitter, Facebook, E-mail Lists etc – they will get to the people that need to see the footage of support most.

The San Jose rally saw an impressive line-up of activists and prominent figures including San Jose Mayor, Chuck Reed; San Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi; Poet Masoud Sepand; Kurdish Human Rights activist Soraya Fallah; music group Revolution of the Mind; various religion minority speakers; and London-based satirist, Hadi Khorsandi.

Khorsandi took the stage, cheering the gathered crowds with his clever insights. Comparing the upcoming demonstrations to a traditional card-game called ’21,’ Khorsandi commented good humouredly, “They say that it is 21 that bankrupts you…” before continuing an argument with himself, “No, it’s actually 22.” (See the video in Farsi below.)
